Aug 29 is the day long distance
relationship people, business collaborators can never forget! How? Skype
celebrates its birthday on Aug, 29 every year. August 29 is the day which
facilitated video calls over internet. It has now completed a decade as it has
turn ten on Aug, 29 2013. Skype is been continuously and successfully reducing
the communication gap between their dear ones by providing video calling service
all over the world. This web service is imparting its servicing to the
thousands of people all over the globe since 2003. Numerically saying, about
300 million people has taken advantage of this service and on an average,
people have spent 1.4 trillion millions minutes on it communicating to their
relatives and friends.
Let’s move ahead to have a quick look on
its history. Skype was started a decade ago when people were generally
fascinated to yahoo messenger, AOL messenger, MSL etc. and were addicted mainly
to chatting through messages only.
These were then the only way to communicate through web. Skype then not only facilitated chatting but video calls too with internet phone service and thorough other internet connections. And now, this idea has been a great success making people forget the worries for their family members and have face to face conversation with their loved ones. The credit goes to its developer Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom who came up with such a brilliant idea. Initially, these two were the owners of the peer-to-peer software, Kazaa which grants its services related to downloading of music through Napster. Later, they thought to make software which enables video calls with the help of its previous P2P Company. For this reason only, Skype stands for sky peer to peer!

Skype believed that as more and more users will start connecting to it, it will be quite easier to provide the service and would be available free then. As in the late 1990’s, it was not plausible to make long distance calls and therefore Skype had an opportunity to lure a large number of people towards Skype by initiating video calls with the help of computer. It has gained much popularity in a small period by enticing 300 million users in a decade which means it has been able to lure customers at the faster speed than telephone and mobiles. It is based on new technology 2013. Skype now further looks forward to facilitate its users with 3D video calling.
Competitors
Saying that, Skype has reached the
pinnacle of success easily without facing the competition with its competitors
is quite unfair. It has though made possible which was somewhat blurred in the
past with the help of new technology. It has attracted number of users towards itself. Initially it only has
the facility of sending messages and voice calls but later it is successful in
video calls too.
Besides Skype there are many VoIP
platforms such as Tropo, cispo, Twilio etc. Skype lure its customers from these
platforms by providing best services to its customers. Skype can be easily
identified as its logo has been quite unique and famous among people.
Wishing happy birthday to Skype and
congratulating for its journey of 10 years. Wish you go a long ahead!
